Make provision for local authorities to determine their short-term housing needs and housing allocation numbers; and for connected purposes.

B e it enacted by the Queen’s most Excellent Majesty, by and with the advice and consent of the Lords Spiritual and Temporal, and Commons, in this present Parliament assembled, and by the authority of the same, as follows:—

1 Local development documents: housing allocation targets

(1)

Section 19 of the Planning and Compulsory Purchase Act 2004 (preparation
of local development documents) is amended as follows.

(2)

After subsection (1E) insert—


“(1F)

For the purposes of subsection (1B), each local planning authority
must establish targets for local housing allocations in line with
timescales set by the Secretary of State and in consultation with local
communities.”

(3)

In subsection (2)(a), after “State” insert “except in relation to the targets
mentioned in subsection (1F)”.

2 Extent, commencement and short title

(1)

This Act extends to England and Wales.

(2)

This Act comes into force on the day on which it is passed

(3)

This Act may be cited as the Local Authority (Housing Allocation) Act 2022.
